Under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Piotrków Trybunalski, the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw has been investigating irregularities in the reimbursement of dietary food for infants. The practice took place in the years 2015 - 2019 and consisted in issuing hundreds of prescriptions for the above-mentioned supplement by doctors to patients who were not entitled to reimbursement. The product was prescribed in amounts many times exceeding the possibility of consumption. Prescriptions issued in such a manner were subsequently filled in pharmacies, causing damage to the property of the National Health Fund. One pack of an infant dietary agent cost on average PLN 150.00, while with a refund - approximately PLN 3.00.
As a result of the investigators' findings, in the Łódzkie Voivodship, officers of the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw detained five persons involved in the practice, including three doctors. The detainees were charged with certifying untruths and with fraud to the detriment of the National Health Fund. The allegations indicate that the detained doctors unduly issued refunded prescriptions worth over PLN 700,000 - to the same patient. The investigation is based on the evidence gathered at the CBA Regional Office in Warsaw and a parallel notification from the National Health Fund.
It is the first operation within this investigation. The disclosed fraud was nationwide and irregularities occurred with the involvement of a number of doctors using the data of numerous patients.
