Ghostwriter campaign: new findings by Internal Security Agency

02.07.2021

The analysis of the ongoing Ghostwriter influence campaign made by Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has shown that the hackers have also targeted the e-mail system of the Sejm – the lower house of the Polish Parliament.

ABW

A thorough analysis has identified the occurrence of unauthorized login attempts to business emails of some Polish MPs. Several Deputies were targeted by this hacking incident. They are members of the following Parliamentary Clubs or Deputies’ Groups: The Left, Poland2050, Law and Justice, Civic Coalition, Confederation.

Having made these findings, the ABW immediately approached the Chancellery of the Sejm in order to present proper recommendations. Those MP’s whose e-mail accounts had been compromised were familiarized with the threats and presented with possible actions to be taken in order to minimize the outcome of the cyber intrusion.

We identify the said breaches of the security of the Sejm’s e-mail system as a part of a wider, ongoing information warfare effort against Poland.
