Celebration of Poland's National Day of the Third of May

The celebration of the National Day of the Third of May at our Embassy was attended by numerous representatives of the Swedish authorities, including members of the Riksdag and the government administration, as well as members of the diplomatic corps in Stockholm, members of the corporate community and international organisations, and representatives of the Polish diaspora. Organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania in Stockholm, the reception was an opportunity for a joint celebration of the Constitution, which defined the legal system of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Joanna Hofman gave a speech referring to the timeless values of the Constitution of the 3rd of May, being the common heritage of Poland and Lithuania, as well as of the Ukrainian and Belarusian nations. Ambassador Hofman also highlighted the scale of Poland's involvement in helping Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, while pointing to the need for continued support from the West. She also expressed Poland's solidarity with the Belarusian society fighting for freedom and respect for human rights against the Lukashenko regime.

In reference to this year's anniversaries of Poland's membership of the European Union and NATO, the Ambassador pointed to the significance of cooperation with Swedish partners in these formats and expressed her belief that Polish-Swedish military cooperation is successively contributing to increased security in the Baltic Sea region, and thus to the entire eastern flank of NATO.

At the event, Ambassador of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius also addressed the audience, as well as the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Riksdag, Aron Emilsson, and the Deputy Director General at the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Cecilia Ruthström-Ruin.

The celebration at the Embassy was enhanced by a performance by Polish pianist Jarosław Kaliski, organised by the Polish Institute in Stockholm, who presented in a short programme works by Fryderyk Chopin, Maria Szymanowska and Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
