Lukáš Oravec, one of Slovakia's best-known jazz trumpeters, is visiting Sweden with a group of musicians from the Visegrad Group Countries (V4) in connection with Slovakia's Presidency of the Visegrad Group. The group will perform in Uppsala and Stockholm. Maciej Sikała - Polish tenor and soprano saxophonist and composer. He graduated from the Department of Jazz and Popular Music at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. He teaches at the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk (major: jazz) and Stage Music, as well as the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (major: jazz saxophone).
He has worked with Maurizio Rolli, David Kikoski, Billy Hart, Billy Harper, Wayne Dockery, Anna Maria Jopek, Piotr Wojtasik, Kuba Stankiewicz, Jose Torres, Krzysztof Herdzin, Leszek Kulakowski and Dominik Wania, among others. He has played with such bands as Love, the Piotr Wojtasik Quintet, the Piotr Rodowicz Quartet, the Leszek Możdżer Quintet and Sextet and the Vintage Band. He has non-toured and recorded with Lester Bowie, Kenny Wheeler, Dolph Vastelano and Miles Griffin. Maciej Sikała has won many awards, including at the International Jazz Improvisation Competition in Katowice. In 2001 he was among the nominees for the "Fryderyk 2001" award in the Jazz Musician of the Year category. He took 1st place in the Jazz Forum monthly readers' poll in the tenor saxophone category in 1995-2001 and in the soprano saxophone category in 2001. Maciej Sikała has more than 60 albums to his credit, including six of his own.
The concerts were organized by the Slovak Embassy, the Czech Embassy, the Hungarian Embassy, the Polish Embassy, the Czech Center and the Polish Institute in Stockholm in cooperation with Katalin and all that Jazz and Stallet.
