Polish aid for Syrian people

Because of the persistent COVID-19 pandemic in Syria and in response to the appeal of the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Damascus, Poland donated medical equipment (i.e. oxygen cylinders, respirators and medical beds) and medicines to fight COVID-19 to be used by the Syrian health service.
The donation is an expression of solidarity in the fight against the pandemic COVID-19. The donation was possible thanks to the cooperation of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves. The medical products will be delivered to WHO Syria responsible for supporting health services throughout Syria.
Thereby it was the first in-kind aid provided by Poland since the beginning of the conflict in Syria dated in 2012. Until now the aid has been provided as part of Polish NGOs’ and diplomatic missions’ projects for refugees, who fled to Lebanon, Jordan and Iraqi Kurdistan as well as the form of Polish aid projects carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Damascus, with a temporary headquarter in Beirut.
In addition, since many years the MFA made financial contributions to support The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in favors of Syrian refugees. The support concentrates on co-financing programs and projects associated with civil protection in military conflicts and providing assistance in the areas difficult to access due to security reasons.
