Residence card
How can an employer make sure that a residence card presented by a foreign national is genuine (has not been forged or tampered with)?
The residence card is issued on a secured form defined by Regulation of the Minister of Interior on documents issued for foreign nationals of 29/04/2014 (Journal of Laws 2014, item 589).
In addition, the employer may ask the foreign national to present the Province Governor’s decision on the grant of the permit for residence or to get and present an official certificate of existence and validity of the residence permit.
I have married a Polish national and assumed his surname. My passport shows my former (maiden) surname. What will be my surname in my residence card?
The surname from your passport for the continuation of official records. The presentation of two travel documents with two different surnames on the crossing of the border would not be accepted.
The resident card has a lower rank than your travel document (passport). The card is a proof of your identity, indeed, but you need also your passport to cross the border and your data have to match. You should have your passport replaced (preferably before applying for the permit for residence) to ensure that your passport is consistent with your certificate of marriage.
