5th edition of Polish Heritage Days kicks off in May! Join the celebrations!
21.04.2021
Over 50 organisations in the United Kingdom have pledged initiatives for the 5th edition of Polish Heritage Days (PHD) - hosted mostly online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, 1st-3rd May, we encourage you to follow the #PLHeritageDays hashtag on social media and celebrate all-things Polish!
This year’s 5th edition of Polish Heritage Days will be all the more special as it will celebrate reinforced values of community purpose and social solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the support provided by the Polish community to their neighbours throughout the UK. As part of PHD, the Polish diaspora in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset invites you to take part in a virtual Polish Heritage Days Run 2021, during which the event participants will cover a total distance of 2,181 miles (3,511 kilometres) that equals to the length of the borders of Poland! Also Polish Runners in the UK from Watford warmly encourage you to join them on 2nd May for a run along a local canal.
During this very extraordinary edition of Polish Heritage Days, you will have an opportunity to test your skills and knowledge by taking part in numerous fantastic competitions about Polish culture, language, history and heritage. You will also be able to participate in various online concerts, dance showcases, film screenings as well as interactive cultural workshops for children and art workshops for adults.
If you are planning a Polish Heritage Days initiative this weekend, share information about it on Twitter and Facebook using #PLHeritageDays and #PolesinUK hashtags and follow us on the Embassy and Polish Heritage Days pages! This coming weekend, let's show how important Polish heritage and culture are to us and fill the Internet with information about our country!
The aim of the Polish Heritage Days is to celebrate the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad Day and the Polish Flag Day on 2nd May and the 3rd May Constitution Day. The initiative promotes Polish culture, heritage of past generations, and Polish contribution to the cultural, economic and social life of the United Kingdom. It is organised to emphasise the positive role that thousands of Polish people have played in the United Kingdom over the years.
The official symbol of the initiative is the red-and-white chequerboard, which was the emblem of the Polish pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain and which, thanks to the Embassy’s efforts, has unofficially become the symbol of Poles in the UK. This year, there is a new logo, created to mark the special 5th edition of the Polish Heritage Days.
