Ambassador Piotr Wilczek visits Scotland on the occasion of the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU

On 31st January, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, organised an event to mark the beginning of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, during which Ambassador Piotr Wilczek presented its priorities.
On 31st January, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, organised an event to mark the beginning of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, during which Ambassador Piotr Wilczek presented its priorities. The event was attended by representatives of the consular corps in Scotland, Members of the Scottish Parliament and members of the Scottish Government, local authorities, local academic communities, scientific and cultural institutions, and representatives of the largest Polish organisations in Scotland. The Ambassador began his presentation of the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council by outlining the current complicated geopolitical situation in the world. Then he focused on the leading statement of the Polish Presidency, which is security, and explained how to understand it.
The Ambassador's lecture was met with great interest from the numerous guests. Referring to the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, the Scottish Minister for the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, Angus Robertson MSP emphasized the negative effects of Brexit on Scotland. The Minister also appreciated the active role of Poles living in Scotland and recalled the Scottish-Polish historical links. The event took place in the premises of the French Institute in the heart of Edinburgh.
Ambassador Piotr Wilczek's visit to Scotland was also an opportunity to hold political meetings, including with the First Minister of Scotland, John Swinney, and Members of Scottish Parliament.
