19.07.2020
To mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the Polish contribution to it, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London presents the #BoBPoles80 social media campaign.
The campaign presents different aspects of Poles‘ story, highlighting their lives, achievements and legacy. It includes videos with experts and representatives of initatives in the UK commemorating the Polish contribution to the Second World War.
#BoBPoles80 runs on Twitter and YouTube from 19 July, 80 years after Antoni Ostowicz became the first Polish pilot to shoot down an enemy aircraft in the Battle of Britain, until 31 October, 80 years after the end of the battle.
145 Polish fighter pilots served in the Battle of Britain in 302 and 303 Polish squadrons as well as in British units.
Out of the overall number of fighter pilots from Allied countries, they constituted the second-largest contingent, after the British.
By the end of the war, more than 18,000 Polish airmen and airwomen were serving in the Polish Air Force in Britain.
