The event explored the diplomacy of the Polish pontiff and his role in promoting democratic values on the world stage.

Papal biographer George Weigel delivered a lecture examining how John Paul II used "soft power" in defending human rights, promoting democratic self-government, and building solidarity among nations.

Following the talk, during a panel discussion, Weigel discussed with the Editor of The Article, Daniel Johnson, matters including the Church and the pontiff's legacy and teachings.

In his opening speech, Polish Ambassador Piotr Wilczek said: "Pope John Paul II was a remarkable figure who played a significant role in shaping the history of Poland and the world. He was a man of great faith, courage, and vision, who inspired millions of people around the globe.

“George Weigel’s work has helped to promote the values of freedom, democracy, and human dignity, which are so important to the people of Poland and the world. His insights and reflections on the life and legacy of Pope John Paul II are invaluable, and I am honoured to have him here with us today.”

The event was attended by around 70 people, including members of the clergy and experts on religious matters.
