On Friday, 20 January at the Polish Embassy in London, a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Polish Educational Society took place.
The event featured a presentation of medals, decorations and letters to the organisation and its members, speeches by representatives of the Embassy, Poland’s Foreign Ministry, the Society, Polish MPs, and the honorary guest – Polish Ambassador in Rome Anna Maria Anders – as well as musical performances.
The Polish Educational Society received the Pro Patria Medal, the Medal of the Centenary of Regained Independence, a decoration from the Association "Polish Community", and a certificate from Poland’s Minister of Education and Science. Meanwhile, distinguished, long-serving teachers from Polish Saturday schools also received the Medal of the National Education Commission.
Music was performed by Alicja Rzepińska, Melania Mason, and the group Blue Café – a 2003 MTV Europe Awards Best Polish Act nominee, and the Polish act in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004.
The Polish Educational Society is a charitable organisation supporting Polish education in the United Kingdom and an association for Polish supplementary schools and individuals involved in the teaching of the Polish language and popularising the knowledge of the Polish culture in the UK.
At present, it works with 130 Polish Language Saturday Schools in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. The Society offers a wide range of support to all involved in the setting up and running of Polish supplementary schools. It also runs an examination centre where students are able to sit Polish language examinations at GCSE and A-level.
The organisation promotes Polish education and culture internationally by cooperating with organisations in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States and represents the interests of Polish education abroad.
