UCL International Relations Society at the Polish Embassy in London

25.10.2023

On the 18th of October, the Polish Embassy in London hosted a group of students hailing from UCL International Relations Society. The meeting, chaired by the society’s Academic Events Director, was an informal Q&A session, preceded by a short introductory speech by Deputy Head of Mission Bartosz Wiśniewski.

Mr Wiśniewski, with Krzysztof Kirdzik and Clarinda Calma from the political department, and the diplomatic trainee Ewa Nawrot, were tasked with answering all of the burning questions from the students. The topics ranged from the basic principles of Polish foreign policy to more detailed queries on the intricacies of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation. A considerable amount of time was also devoted to the nature of Polish soft power and its contemporary applications, such as but not limited to literature, films, and visual arts. The Q&A was an excellent opportunity for the students to enquire about the daily life of diplomats both at the Embassy and the Consulate. Mr Wiśniewski also shed light on the uniqueness of London as a diplomatic post.

It was an immense pleasure to welcome aspiring young professionals and scholars from UCL at our Embassy. Indeed, we are more than convinced that all of them, with hard work and dedication, have a chance at a stellar career in diplomacy.
