After a welcoming speech from Bartosz Wiśniewski, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Polish Embassy, and Rafał Staszewski, the Vice President of Medical Research Agency, the conference’s agenda emphasised the opportunities and challenges in genomics research and population genetics, as well as the possibilities of healthcare innovation and international partnerships. Pitches from 10 Polish health sector companies concluded the event.
One of the keynote lectures on “Identifying the Breast Cancer Gene Variant in Orcadanias” left a long-lasting impression. Esteemed Professor Zofia Międzybrodzka, its presenter, shared her expertise and exploration of the field, highlighting the genetic aspects of breast cancer within the Orcadian community.
Later, the participants heard from Mr Piers Ricketts, the Chief Executive of the Eastern Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) Health Innovation East. His address, titled "Supporting HealthTech Innovation: The Role of the Academic Health Science Network," focused on the crucial role of the AHSN in the fostering of modernisation within the healthcare technology sector. Mr. Ricketts shed light on the importance of international collaboration and innovation in the shaping of healthcare’s future, which resonated deeply with the audience.
Organised alongside the Polish Trade and Investment Agency and the Medical Research Agency, the event amplified the collaboration between Polish and British scientific communities and their ever-growing cooperation in the scientific fields. The conference, in turn, promoted synergy between the United Kingdom and Poland and stimulated ground-breaking advancements in healthcare, medical research, and economic growth through innovation. Partners of the event included organisations such as BioForum, BioInMed, and Wellcome Sanger Institue.
