05.05.2024
The plaque, dedicated to the Polish Armed Forces fighting during World War II, was unveiled on 3 May in downtown Manchester's St Peter's Square.
The event was part of the 3 May Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Polish Consulate General in Manchester. The ceremony was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Diane Hawkins, representing King Charles III; the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Eamonn O'Neil; local government officials from the Manchester consular district headed by the Mayor of Manchester, Yasmine Dar; the local diplomatic corps; and representatives of Polish communities in Manchester and the surrounding area. The Polish Embassy in London was represented by the Defense Attaché, Colonel Robert Pawlicki.
Following the plaque unveiling ceremony, event participants had the opportunity to attend an exhibition at Manchester Central Library dedicated to the Polish Armed Forces, prepared by the Polish Cultural Foundation in London. The exhibition presents the military achievements of Polish soldiers from the outbreak of war until the end of operations, including the contribution of Poles to victory in the Battle of Monte Cassino. In addition, the guests viewed an exhibition dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its outbreak. This exhibition was developed by Dr. Kamila Kasperowicz and the Polish Center "Vilnius" within the framework of Polish Heritage Days, available in the library's main lobby to all visitors until 15 May this year.
