Karski

On October 4, Academy Award Nominee David Strathairn, known for starring in films such as "Good Night and Good Luck," took part in a panel discussion, organized by the Embassy, that explored the legacy of Jan Karski. The meeting was an opportunity to honor the memory of Jan Karski, who, as a courier of the Polish Underground State during World War II, was sent with the mission of providing allies with information about the atrocities committed in occupied Poland, and, above all, about the Holocaust. During the meeting, David Strathairn performed a short excerpt of the play, "Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski," which will be shown at the prestigious Shakespeare Theater in Washington, D.C., starting on October 6.

The panel was attended by the play’s director, Mr. Derek Goldman, the curator of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, Mr. Jacek Nowakowski, and was moderated by Ms. Anna Sommer Schneider from the Center for Jewish Civilization at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Guests were also treated to copies of a special publication containing the play’s script, with written contributions from Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, Former U.S. Ambassador to the EU Stuart Eizenstat, and Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, among others. The project was co-organized by the Laboratory for Global Performance & Politics at Georgetown University and the Jan Karski Educational Foundation. The event was attended by a large group of Ambassadors accredited to the U.S., as well as representatives of Jewish organizations and academic circles.
