Opening the concert, Paweł Kotowski, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Poland, stated, “Thanks to Chopin’s music, which is both universal and thoroughly Polish, Warsaw will once again become the musical capital of the world during the International Chopin Piano Competition.” Brian Ganz, whose talent draws thousands of American music lovers to his concerts, previously won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition and is a professor at the Peabody Conservatory and at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland. Ten years ago, Mr. Ganz undertook the challenge of performing the complete works of Chopin for his Washingtonian audience, and he expects to accomplish this feat in 2025. During the Saturday concert, Ganz performed, among others, Chopin’s posthumously published Nocturne in E Minor, Op. 72 No. 1 and his Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 42. The concert was accompanied by an exhibition on the various works of Chopin, created by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland as part of the commemorations of the composer’s 210th birth anniversary.

The concert was organized by the National Philharmonic at Strathmore in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, DC, and was primarily overseen by the institution’s Artistic Director, Piotr Gajewski, as well as its President, Jim Kelly.
