History
The Chemical Equipment Research and Development Site was established after The World War II, in 1954, as a response to a need of securing troops and the population against nuclear weapons and new, high toxicity chemical warfare agents.
Since the beginning, many innovative, in that time, works has been carried out in the field of:
- reconnaissance and detection of chemical contamination;
- reconnaissance and detection of radioactive contamination and explosions of nuclear bombs;
- respiratory protection equipment;
- skin protection equipment;
- protection against WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction).
The Chemical Equipment Research and Development Site was renamed the Chemical Equipment Research Center, in 1958 and subsequently, in 1973, the Military Institute of Chemistry and Radiometry (MICR).
