Seeking employment
Nationals of the Member States of the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as well as Switzerland may work in Poland without having to obtain a work permit, on the same terms as Polish nationals.
In Poland, you may look for a job independently, by submitting a CV together with a cover letter to selected employers, or through organisations and entities providing professional job placement services.
Job offers in Poland are published mainly by district labour offices, the Voluntary Labour Corps (Ochotnicze Hufce Pracy), private employment agencies, the press and web portals.
District labour offices publish job offers in the online Central Job Offer Database. The database includes all job offers submitted by Polish employers to district labour offices. They are available online – www.oferty.praca.gov.pl – to all persons interested in looking for work in Poland. Some job offers in the Central Job Offer Database do not contain the details of the employers. These employers have provided their details to district labour offices, which select suitable candidates for jobs at the employers’ request.
In order to benefit from all job offers at the disposal of district labour offices, you need to register as an unemployed person or jobseeker at the office having jurisdiction over your place of stay.
The Voluntary Labour Corps provide job placement services mainly for young people. They publish job offers in an online job offer database – www.mbp.ohp.pl. These offers can also be found in the online Central Job Offer Database.
The European network of employment services (EURES), which promotes mobility on the European job market, also facilitates job search in the EU/EFTA countries, including Poland. The EURES network provides job placement services within the EU and provides information on living and working conditions in the EU/EFTA countries, including in Poland. As part of the EURES network, job offers from the EU/EFTA countries are made available on the European Job Mobility Portal – www.eures.europa.eu, including those from Polish employers submitted to district labour offices and the Voluntary Labour Corps.
Private employment agencies in Poland recruit candidates for jobs for employers. In order to operate legally in Poland, employment agencies must obtain certificates confirming entry into the Register of Employment Agencies, which is maintained by province marshals. Agencies should be entered into this register by the province marshal having jurisdiction over their registered offices. Agencies cannot charge any fees from jobseekers, except for those charged for the costs actually incurred (e.g. translation of documents, travel costs), which should be specified in agreements concluded with jobseekers. The charging of fees for job placement by agencies constitutes an infringement. A list of certified agencies is available on the website of the Register of Employment Agencies – http://stor.praca.gov.pl/portal/#/kraz. Employment agencies’ job offers can be found directly on these agencies’ websites.
Job search assistance is also provided in Poland by foreign entities – http://stor.praca.gov.pl/portal/#/wpz – which are authorised to provide job placement services in Poland without being entered into the Register of Employment Agencies, on the basis of authorisations issued in the countries of origin. The authorisations do not cover temporary employment services. Foreign entities are required to notify the Province Marshal having jurisdiction over the place where the services are provided that they carry out business activities in Poland.
Web portals are run by entities which provide job placement services by electronic means only and publish job adverts online. These entities do not need to be entered into the Register of Employment Agencies.
Both Polish employers and entities providing job placement services in Poland publish job offers in the press, online or in their registered offices and via other forms of communication, e.g. social media.
Most daily newspapers, both nationwide and local, contain special columns with job adverts.
