On 12-14 December 2024, the Festival of European Literature took place in Tirana - an initiative undertaken by the EU Delegation in Albania together with the embassies of several EU countries and the Italian Institute of Culture. The event aimed to attract outstanding European book authors to the Albanian capital, who presented their works to Albanian readers. The project, implemented for the first time in Albania, met with great interest. The festival included meetings and interactive activities for Albanian readers, who had the opportunity to meet and exchange opinions with famous foreign writers from Poland, France, Ireland, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands and Croatia.

Festival of European Literature in Tirana with Margo Rejmer

Małgorzata Rejmer, a Polish writer, author of a reportage book about Albania entitled "Mud Sweeter Than Honey. Voices of Communist Albania" was one of the invited guests. Her participation in the event aroused great interest among Albanian readers and literature lovers.

The Polish author had the opportunity to visit the "Asim Vokshi" High School in Tirana to talk to the students about her years spent in Tirana, the first-hand stories shared with her by Albanians, and how they influenced her writing about Albania's communist past.

The literary evening, which took place at the National Library of Albania "Sotir Kolea", included a panel discussion, readings of book excerpts, and questions and answers. During the meeting, M. Rejmer shared her deep bond with Albania and talked about her writing process. Participants had the opportunity to talk directly with the author about the books and inspirations that shape her work, while expressing hope that Albanian translations of her works will soon be published.
