Meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Tirana

On 2 December 2024, a Meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe was held in Tirana. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr Marcin Wiącek, and the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Poland, Mr Adam Bodnar. The closed part of the meeting concerned Poland's fulfilment of its membership obligations in the Council of Europe and the report on the rule of law in Poland.

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Adam Bodnar, presented the government's actions aimed at reforming the justice system in Poland at the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Tirana and emphasized that the Polish experience in restoring the rule of law can become an inspiration for other European Union member states and candidate countries, such as Albania.

The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Marcin Wiącek. In his statement, Commissioner stated that the current situation related to the judiciary in Poland is very worrying and that citizens have lost confidence in the justice system.

The Minister of Justice and the Commissioner for Human Rights during the meeting were accompanied by the Chargé d’affaires a. i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tirana, Mr. Tomasz Frączkiewicz.
