Exhibition „30 YEARS OF VISEGRAD COOPERATION”

17.02.2021

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Visegrad Group, on 15th February 2021, the Ambassadors of Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to Belgium inaugurated an open-air exhibition in Brussels concerning 30 years of achievements of the V4. The exhibition includes unique photos, documents as well as rich information about the history and activities of the Visegrad Group and the International Visegrad Fund.

The Visegrad Group was established as an alliance of initially three and later four countries to pursue European integration as well as to strengthen military, economic and energy cooperation between them. The Visegrad Group (also referred to as the “Visegrad Four” or simply as “V4”) reflects the efforts of four Central European countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary – to cooperate in many areas of common interest within the framework of pan-European integration. The activities of the group are coordinated by the Foreign Ministries of the V4 countries, but also include all levels of government and state administration. With the establishment of the International Visegrad Fund in 2000 – the only institutionalized form of Visegrad cooperation so far – non-governmental organisations and civic initiatives for ‘bottom-up’ building of a regional alliance began to enjoy support. The activities of the Visegrad Group aim at strengthening stability and prosperity in the Central European region. The V4 countries see cooperation as a challenge and its success as the best proof of their ability to integrate into structures such as the European Union. The first High Level Summit took place in the city of Visegrad on 15 February 1991. The venue was chosen to symbolically link the event with the meetings of the three kings at Visegrad in 1335 and 1336 which had been the the result of lengthy and complex diplomatic efforts at that time and can be regarded as one of the earliest examples of regional cooperation in Central Europe.

The exhibition is available to all visitors every day until 21st March 2021, in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels at Avenue des Gaulois 29 (Merode metro station lines 1 & 5).
