Forgotten Heroes photo exhibition by Johannes Vande Voorde opens in Brussels

New exhibition opened at the Republic of Poland in Brussels presenting portraits of soldiers of the 1st Polish Armoured Division will be available until 11 December.
In September 1944, soldiers of the 1st Polish Armored Division, led by gen. Stanisław Maczek, liberated around 60 Flemish towns and villages. Unable to return to Poland due to post-war communist repression, many settled in Flanders, started families, and integrated into Belgian society.
The exhibition presents 21 contemporary portraits of Polish veterans, presented on a rotating basis, offering a unique perspective on their stories. Photos originate from the book "Vergeten Helden" (in English, "Forgotten Heroes"), co-authored by Johannes Vande Voorde, a Flemish photographer, and Dirk Verbeke, the president of the 1st Polish Armored Division Association in Belgium.
