Polish Day 2022 Celebrations in the Heart of Brussels
29.04.2022
All Bruxellois and visitors as well as Polish diaspora are invited to join the family-friendly picnic organized in the Parc Cinquantenaire on Sunday afternoon, May 8th. This year, traditional May festivities – Polish Heritage Days - organized worldwide by the Polish diaspora will also support the humanitarian effort for the people of Ukraine.
The Embassy of Poland in Brussels together with the Polish Institute Brussels, the Polish Educational Society, and Help Centre Belgium, are happy to announce that this year’s Third May Celebration will take place in an exceptional location – the stunning Parc du Cinquantenaire.
“It will be our first widely open event after the pandemic and we wish to celebrate together with the Belgian and international neighbours our Constitution Day, which is also traditionally linked to the showcase of Polish heritage abroad.” – said Ambassador Rafał Siemianowski, who started his mission to the Kingdom of Belgium in November last year. “This Spring, our solidarity with Ukraine will be an important message of the event” – he added.
The event is addressed to all who would like to learn more about Poland – a welcoming country, supporting its neighbours in need, attractive for tourists, with a fascinating culture and rich history - strongly linked with Belgium due to the success of the liberation army of General Maczek.
Guests of the picnic may taste healthy Polish food, including a modern vegetarian take on Polish cuisine. There will also be a Ukrainian food stand, from which all profits will be donated towards humanitarian aid.
The program of the picnic includes a live concert from jazz band Cezariusz Gadzina Collective & Ukrainian Guests curated by the Polish Institute Brussels. Later in the afternoon guests will get to enjoy the rock-pop group Muzyka Końca Lata (Music of Summer’s End) coming especially from Poland to present their a bit nostalgic, big-beat love songs.
Our guests will have an opportunity to meet Poles of different ages and walks of life: learn about Polish culture from the youngest Polish-Belgians as a dozen of Polish schools will showcase their activities, or meet Polish European civil servants associated through Network.PL. There will also be plenty of attractions for kids, including art workshops.
The event will be possible thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Embassy’s partners: the Polish Educational Society (Polska Macierz Szkolna) which celebrates this year the 70th anniversary of its activities in Belgium, Help Centre Belgium (Sztab Pomocy Belgia) whose volunteers have tirelessly served those who needed support during the pandemic for the past two years, the July 2021 Belgian floods and now – refugees from Ukraine as well as the Polish Institute Brussels and the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Poland to NATO.
The strategic partner of the event is POT – the Polish Tourism Organisation and we are also grateful to KGHM Polska Miedź SA, Lodzkie House, LOT Polish Airlines and Magabel Services for their support.
The event is scheduled to take place from 13:00-17:00 on May 8th. All updates will be available on the Facebook page of the Embassy of Poland in Belgium.
