Security, Europe!
01.01.2025
On 1 January 2025 Poland assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second time.
Thirteen years after its first presidency and two decades since joining the EU, Poland is presenting an ambitious agenda focused on the broad concept of security.
The European Union faces numerous significant challenges today: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, escalating geopolitical tensions, and hybrid threats such as disinformation and migration pressures are targeting the foundations of European democracy and security. Climate resilience, the need for an energy transition amidst intensifying global competition, and essential investments will test the Union’s capabilities.
As a result, the cornerstone of Poland’s 2025 Presidency is multidimensional security: external, internal, information, energy, economic, food, and health security.
Poland’s presidency coincides with the beginning of a new institutional cycle, providing an opportunity to set objectives, propose solutions, and initiate processes for the next five years.
