The appointment of Mr Jean-Charles Wibo as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Deinze

The Polish Embassy in Brussels hosted the inauguration ceremony for the appointment of Mr Jean-Charles Wibo as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Deinze. The event was attended by Ms Aleksandra Klimont-Bodzińska, Head of the Political Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Radosław Sikorski.

Mr Jean-Charles Wibo’s consular district encompasses East Flanders, West Flanders and Flemish Brabant. These regions are of importance to Poland not only because of the large Polish community and economic cooperation, but also for historical reasons. In 1944, Tielt, Roeselare, Ghent, Sint-Niklaas and many other towns in Flanders were liberated by Polish soldiers.

The function of honorary consul is an uncompensated mission, rooted in diplomatic tradition and carried out by prominent representatives of the country. Mr Jean-Charles Wibo is a Belgian entrepreneur investing in Poland since 2006, in the field of steel and machinery. Since 2019, he has served as President of the BEPOLUX Chamber of Commerce. His also include supporting Polish culture - he is an active member of the Belgian Chopin Foundation, which funds scholarships for young Polish artists. For his activity for Poland, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2013. After the Russian aggression in Ukraine in February 2022, he became involved in helping Poland and Ukrainian refugees.
