Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus
Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski is a career diplomat, a civil servant and a member of the foreign service. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001 after graduating from the National School of Public Administration.
Marek Szczepanowski’s entry into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was preceded by adequate field education, which he continuously developed by participating in internships, courses and training in Poland and abroad.
He graduated cum laude in International Relations and National Security at the University of Warsaw. In addition, he has completed trainings and internships organized by academic and public administration institutions of Canada, Germany, India, Italy and Singapore, among others.
Since the beginning of his career, first at the Office of the Committee for European Integration and then at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has been dealing with issues relating to Poland’s integration and membership in the European Union, among other things, preparing international meetings of the UKIE leadership, and later representing the Foreign Ministry as an expert in meetings on public and cultural diplomacy.
During his foreign postings, he worked at the Polish Consulate General in Milan, as a counsellor in the Political Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome and as Deputy Director of the Polish Institute in Rome, which he also periodically managed. During this time, he received the diplomatic rank of Minister-Counsellor.
After returning to Warsaw in 2010, he served as Deputy and Director of the Bureau of Archives and Information Management, where he was responsible, among other things, for the preparation and implementation of the first Electronic Document Management System in the Polish public administration, managed the work of the team responsible for the new visualization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign missions, and coordinated the reform of workflow of classified documents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After returning from another foreign assignment in 2018, Marek Szczepanowski took up the position of Deputy and then Director of the Department of Public and Cultural Diplomacy, which he held, among other things, during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining of independence and the 15th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union, coordinating the activities of Polish foreign missions in this regard. In April 2021, he was appointed Director of Diplomatic Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was responsible for the coordination and implementation of protocol services for foreign visits and international meetings in Poland of representatives of the highest state authorities and for ensuring appropriate work conditions for the diplomats accredited to Poland.
Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski speaks English, Italian and German. Married, with two children.
