Celebration of the 233. Anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May and the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia, together with the Honorary Consul General Leandros Papaphilippou, organized a special reception on the occasion of the 233. Anniversary of the Constitution of May 3. The event, which took place in the prestigious Leventis Foundation Gallery, was also part of a series of celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Poland's membership in the European Union.
During the evening, the exhibition "Constitution of May 3", photographs illustrating the changes that have occurred in Poland during 20 years of membership in the European Union and a film presenting Poland's tourist attractions were presented. The event was accompanied by musical setting by a Polish-Cypriot duo, who performed works by Polish, Cypriot and international composers.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Cypriot authorities, economic, scientific and cultural circles, the Polish community, the clergy and the diplomatic corps. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus was represented by the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Giorgos Papanastasiou. The Minister of Health Michael Damianos, Minister for European Affairs Marilena Rauna, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andreas Kakouris, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Andreas Louka and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Marios Panayides were also present. In total, over 150 guests attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski emphasized the importance of the Constitution of May 3 of the Republic of Poland, which was the first one in Europe and the second in the world as a symbol of freedom, democracy and rebirth. In this context, the Ambassador paid particular attention to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which is now in its third year and the threat posed by aggressive Russian imperialism to all of Europe and the international order. The Ambassador further emphasized the importance of membership in the European Union for the development of our country, Polish-Cypriot cooperation and the stability and security of the continent. He also drew attention to the challenges facing by both countries and opportunities to strengthen relations, created by the upcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, to Poland and the joint Presidencies of Poland and Cyprus in the EU Council as part of the Trio.
In his speech the Minister of Energy representing the government of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgios Papanastasiou, referred to the long-term friendly bilateral relations and thanked Poland for its current stance of solidarity towards the solution of the Cyprus problem.
During the ceremony guests could try traditional Polish cuisine.
