80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau
27.01.2025
80 years have passed since the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, a place where more than 1 million innocent human lives were lost, one of the most tragic chapters in human history.
During today's ceremony at the Danish Jewish Museum, together with the Holocaust Survivors, representatives of the Danish government, the diplomatic corps, Jewish community and the people of Copenhagen, we paid tribute to all the victims of terror.
In her address, our Head of Mission Ewa Dębska stressed the importance of preserving the memory of Auschwitz:
As the last Survivors are passing away, we – as humanity – face the great challenge of maintaining the memory of Auschwitz, the memory of the Holocaust, the memory of millions of innocent human lives. The message from Auschwitz-Birkenau is universal. It concerns all peoples and countries, regardless of their own history. We must not allow the tragic lessons of Auschwitz to be forgotten. The memory of this place shall also draw inspiration for us to act jointly for peace and justice.
