The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising broke out on 19 April, 1943. On the eve of Pesach, German troops, tanks and armored vehicles entered the ghetto. Several hundred members of the Jewish Combat Organization fought against them. The fighting lasted until 16 May, 1943 and ended in defeat for the insurgents. After the uprising, the Germans razed the ghetto to the ground.

The uprising in the Warsaw ghetto was the largest armed uprising of Jews during World War II and the first urban uprising in occupied Europe.
