A meeting with representatives of the Danish MFA and the participation in a conference of three successive presidencies (a trio of Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus) were the major points of Deputy Minister Prawda׳s visit to Copenhagen on 5–6 December 2024.
As part of Polish–Danish bilateral consultations, Deputy Minister Prawda met with State Secretary for European Affairs and the Arctic Jonas Bering Liisberg. One of the topics discussed during the meeting were the preparations for Poland’s presidency of the EU Council starting on 1 January 2025, as well as the plans of future Danish presidency of the institution in the second half of the year. The diplomats also debated the enlargement of the European Union and the current security situation in the Baltic Sea region.
While speaking with Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, Deputy Minister Prawda brought up the assessment of the current geopolitical situation in Europe.
Undersecretary of State Marek Prawda, together with Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre, took part in the conference 'Building European Security and Competitiveness in Uncertain Times'. At the event organised by the Embassy of Poland in Copenhagen, the Danish MFA, and Think Tank EUROPA, Deputy Minister Prawda pointed out the need for adapting the EU policy to today’s challenges. He also underlined the importance of strengthening the European Union’s security, also through the enlargement process, and the necessity to enhance the competitiveness of the EU economy with global partners.
The event, attended by the deputy head of Polish diplomacy and Danish minister Marie Bjerre, and assisted by the Embassy of Cyprus in Denmark, was held in the context of the new trio of the EU Council presidencies starting on 1 January 2025. For the next 18 months Poland, Denmark, and Cyprus will successively hold the six-month presidency of the EU Council, heading the institution׳s work.
