British historian Roger Moorhouse gave a lecture on the 1939 September campaign to the participants of the Historiske Dage history festival, which was held on March 18-19 in Copenhagen.
The September campaign was the first campaign of World War II. Poland was the first country to resolutely resist the brutal expansion of totalitarian powers during World War II. Poland's armed resistance to German aggression on 1 September 1939 was a turning point in world policy toward the Third Reich. Poland fought against the Nazi Germany aggressor, however, on September 17 it was attacked from the east by the Soviets. Polish soldiers and defenders heroically resisted their enemies until 6 October 1939.
Roger Moorhouse in his speech at the Historiske Dage also discussed the scale of destruction and losses Poland suffered as a result of World War II.
On March 17 Roger Moorhouse addressed students of history and regional studies at the University of Copenhagen. The historian talked about the Polish perspective on the Russia’s war on Ukraine, provided an overview of the historical relationship between Poland and the Soviet Union, the geopolitical significance of the current conflict, and the support Poland is providing to the freedom-fighting Ukraine.
