Best year for housing in decades

In the whole of 2021 - according to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) - 6.3% more dwellings were completed in Poland than in the previous year. The number of dwellings for which construction permits were issued or notifications with designs were submitted also increased by nearly 24%.

The latest data regarding the number of dwellings completed last year, allow to look into the future with optimism. There were as many as 234.7 thousand flats. This is over 80 thousand flats more than in 2015, i.e. within 6 years we recorded an increase of nearly 60%. Moreover, at the end of 2021, there were still about 871.3 thousand flats under construction, i.e. 5.2% more than in 2020. This proves that the past year in housing construction was record-breaking good

Flats put into use - a record-breaking year

 The Central Statistical Office has published preliminary data on housing construction for 2021. They show that during the past twelve months, 6.3% more flats were put into use in Poland than in the previous year. The number of dwellings for which construction has begun was also higher (an increase by 23.9%), as well as the number of dwellings for which permits were issued or a notification with a design was submitted (an increase by 23.3%).

Last year, a total of 234.7 thousand dwellings were completed - 6.2 per 1,000 residents. This is the highest result since 1979. Such a situation was influenced by the development of the market sector, comprising 98.9% of all dwellings completed in the analysed period. The dominant role was played by developer-built construction (61% of dwellings), followed by individual construction (38%). The least number of cooperative dwellings was completed - 2 thousand dwellings.
