We are going to take action in order to foster Polish entrepreneurs’ interest in trade and investment in Georgia. We also plan to involve academia in cooperation between our countries

- said Deputy Minister Robert Tomanek.

Both sides highlighted the importance of the Commission as a tool for stocktaking the cooperation to date and as a platform for bringing together economy-wide and sector-specific topics. The accompanying business events enable entrepreneurs to network and establish new contacts.

One of the planned directions of development of cooperation with Georgia concerns increasing investment levels. The country was deemed one of the most open economies in the world in terms of investment policy in a 2020 peer review conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), characterised by the lowest level of bribery and corruption in the region – as such, it represents an opportunity for Polish entrepreneurs. The Ministry recommends in particular the companies that won the GreenEvo project, dealing with modern green technologies that contribute to comprehensive sustainable development and circular economy.

We are glad that Poland has once again been selected for a twinning project in Georgia – this time one concerning railway transport, which is supposed to launch later this month.

Despite COVID-19 pandemic, imports from Georgia increased by 35% in January-November 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

The next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is expected to assess post-pandemic cooperation and develop guidelines for the future – it is slated to take place in Q3 2021, although its format will depend on the development of the pandemic.
