Deputy Minister Grzegorz Piechowiak participated in the European Future Forum in Chorzów

Today we aim not only at attracting new investments, but also at attracting above all strategic investments: from the most technologically advanced industries, which contribute to the popularisation of green solutions or are characterised by innovative solutions. That is why we have reformed the zoning instrument, creating the Polish Investment Zone. This serves to solve the current needs of the Polish economy," stressed Grzegorz Piechowiak, Deputy Minister of Development and Technology, Government Plenipotentiary for Foreign Investment during the panel "The Future of Special Economic Zones.

Special Economic Zones, from the very beginning of their existence, have supported entrepreneurs at every stage of investment. The rapid economic development of the regions in which they were located allowed them to attract further investments, and the positive effect of the zones also 'spilled over' to neighbouring areas," the Deputy Minister stressed.

The latest figures show that within the Polish Investment Zone - from September 2018 to the end of September 2021. - a total of 1,172 decisions on support were issued, for PLN 52 billion . With this, 23,544 new jobs were created. By the end of September 2021, 365 decisions to support investment were issued (38 decisions in September alone) with a total value of PLN 15.7 billion (in September - PLN 1.8 billion).

The 25th anniversary of the Katowice zone

Grzegorz Piechowiak, the Deputy Minister of Development and Technology, will also take part in the official gala celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Katowice Special Economic Zone.
The Katowice SEZ is among the top three zones in terms of the largest value of investments in 2021. (ahead of Kostrzyn-Słubice SEZ and Wałbrzych SEZ). In 2021 it issued a total of 59 decisions on support for investments with a declared value exceeding PLN 2.3 billion. This will create almost 1980 guaranteed new jobs.

Since the beginning of the PIZ, the Katowice SEZ has issued a total of 180 decisions, with a declared value of nearly 52 billion PLN, thanks to which 23,544 new jobs have been created. In terms of value, investments in the Katowice SEZ account for as much as 20% of all investments within the PIZ. On its territory 25% of new jobs were created.

  • The Katowice Special Economic Zone is first in Europe and ranked 2nd in the world in the FDI Business Financial Times 2019 ranking;
  • There are more than 500 companies operating within the Katowice Special Economic Zone, generating 80,000 jobs, and the total value of investments exceeds PLN 42 billion.
