Deputy Minister Grzegorz Piechowiak: we look forward for strengthening of the Polish-Slovakian economic relations
22.04.2022
The Polish-Slovakian economic cooperation, including in particular in the automotive industry, followed by the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine on the economic situation in both states are the leitmotivs of the Polish-Slovakian governmental consultations in Stará Ľubovňa and Vyšné Ružbachy in Slovakia. The consultations were attended by among others Grzegorz Piechowiak, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology, and Karol Galek, Secretary of State in the Slovakian Ministry of Economy.
Slovakia is one of our key neighbours and economic partners. I am happy that the Polish investors invest in Slovakia, including among others in such economic sectors as the energy, agri-food, IT or retail trade. We also focus on cooperation in the automotive industry. Despite nearly two months of the conquest of the Russian military forces in Ukraine, we still hope for maintaining the current dynamics of trade
– emphasized Grzegorz Piechowiak, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology.
The third Polish-Slovakian Inter-Governmental Consultation was held in Stará Ľubovňa and Vyšné Ružbachy under the auspices of the Prime Ministers of Poland and Slovakia: Mateusz Morawiecki and Eduard Heger. The heads of both governments signed a declaration of good neighbourly cooperation.
Polish-Slovakian economic relations
Slovakia is one of the key trade partners of Poland. In 2021, our exchange of goods amounted to nearly EUR 13 billion, which means an increase by 23% compared with the previous year. In the same period, the Polish export increased by 21% and – after the 2020 drop – by 17% compared to the pre-pandemic period.
Poland is also the key trade partner of Slovakia. We are ranked third (following Germany and Czech) with 8% of share in the Slovakian global export.
