Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin visits Ukraine

During his stay in the capital of Ukraine, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin met Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Reznikov and Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, Ihor Petrashko.

Ukraine is an economic partner of Poland of strategic importance. Our common challenges include ensuring the energy security of the country, as well as targets for the energy transition toward a low-carbon economy,

said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Technology during his visit in Kiev.

We are pleased that the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 is ongoing in Ukraine. Poland has consistently sought support in the sphere of vaccination and the supply of vaccines, especially within the EU,

said Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin during his meeting with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. He also assured him of the constant interest of Polish investors in the Ukrainian market.

Deputy Prime Minister Gowin emphasised that despite the current limitations resulting from the pandemic, Poland enjoys stable economic relations with Ukraine.

In the face of the pandemic challenges, the importance of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation is increasing. This is evidenced by positive data on trade flows between our countries for 2020,” Jarosław Gowin pointed out. Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the barriers to business activity reported by the Polish entrepreneurs investing in Ukraine: – I think Ukraine could benefit from Polish experience in improving the investment climate,

he said.

Later on, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin took part with the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Reznikov in the meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. This body consist of seven working groups dealing with cooperation in agriculture, tourism, the fuel and energy sector, transport, geo-spatial information, space, as well as trade and investment; moreover, it also has the defence industry sub-committee.

The representatives of the ministries present on site discussed opportunities for developing mutual cooperation as well as emerging challenges. The meeting ended with signing the minutes.

The meeting of the Commission is a good opportunity to present the systemic solutions and trends in our two economies. In Poland, we are constantly taking active action to create effective, most beneficial system solutions for entrepreneurs,

said during the session Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin, Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Technology. He pointed to solutions being prepared at the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, such as the Plan for Labour and Development, the Legal Shield and the new Industrial Policy of Poland.

During the discussion with Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, Ihor Petrashko, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin stressed the interest of Polish business in investing in Ukraine.

I would like to draw attention to the considerable experience and potential of Polish companies form the energy sector, such as Orlen and PGNiG,

highlighted Gowin. He also expressed his concern about the situation of Polish investors, including the large number of investigations initiated concerning the introduction of safeguard duties on different products and problems with border capacity or the protection of intellectual property.

An important point of the visit was the meeting with Polish entrepreneurs investing in Ukraine, during which Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin stressed the importance of cooperation with Poland’s closest neighbours.

Despite the pandemic, trade data for 2020 show that during this difficult time Polish-Ukrainian trade turnover increased by 3,4%, reaching over 8,9 billion dollars,

– noted Deputy Prime Minister Gowin and assured about his efforts to improve the situation of Polish entrepreneurs on the Ukrainian market.

At the end of the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Gowin also met representatives of the Ukrainian media with whom he discussed the economic situation of our two countries and the prospects for bilateral trade cooperation.
