Employment and remunerations in the business sector in September 2020 – commentary of the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology to the data published by the CSO
19.10.2020
The monthly number of employees increased for the fourth time in a row in September. The continuous acceleration of wage growth is also a great message for the employees.
CSO reports that the number of employees in the business sector in September averaged at 6312.4 thousand. That is an increase of over 17 thousand in comparison to August, although that is still lower by over 133 thousand in comparison to September 2019 (a decrease by 1.2%), and by almost 74 thousand less in comparison to February of the current year. September is the fourth month in a row when the number of employees continued to rise, albeit it slowed down. The slowdown matches the stabilisation of the labour market indicators observed this year.
The decrease of the employment rate is affected by still functioning components of the anti-crisis shield which are related to reduction of working time. The CSO publishes the results in full-time equivalents.
Information on the average salaries in the business sector are clearly positive for the employees. CSO reports that the value of average salaries in September amounted to PLN 5371.56. That means an increase by 0.6% in comparison to August of the current year and an increase by 5.6% in comparison to September 2019. Since May, we have been observing an increasingly rapid growth in average remunerations which is gradually approaching the high dynamics noted in the preceding years.
The aforementioned data pertains only to companies with over 9 employees.
