Minister Nowak talked to EBRD vice-president about aid for Ukraine and countries suffering most from Russian aggression

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development intends to prepare an aid package for Ukraine and the countries most affected by the war. The EBRD's response to Russia's military attack on Ukraine was the main subject of a conversation between Piotr Nowak, Minister for Development and Technology, and Alain Pilloux, EBRD Deputy President.

The EBRD Vice President was visiting Poland in connection with the events in Ukraine. On Tuesday, the EBRD Board of Directors decided to restrict access to the bank's resources in relation to Russia and Belarus. The bank decided to evacuate its staff from its offices in Kiev, Lviv and also Minsk.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs was involved in helping to transport the bank's employees from the Belarusian capital. At a meeting with Minister Nowak, the EBRD Deputy President thanked Poland for sheltering the bank's staff.

Alain Pilloux announced that the EBRD is to develop an assistance package for Ukraine and for countries which will be most affected by Russian aggression, including Poland.

EBRD support for green transformation of Polish economy

During Minister Nowak's conversation with Vice President Pilloux, the prospect of increasing the EBRD's involvement in Poland's energy transition was also raised. It is about actions for decarbonisation, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

EBRD projects in Poland

Poland is the largest recipient of EBRD support in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. The value of EBRD projects in our country amounted in 2021 to EUR 598 million. The most important EBRD projects were implemented in the renewable energy sector (mainly wind power), pharmaceuticals and real estate.
