With a view to the aggression of the Russian army to Ukraine, which already lasts 70 days, we opt for the exclusion of Russia and Moscow from among the candidates competing for the World Expo 2030. I shall send the official letter to the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris in the hope of making a responsible decision

– said Waldemar Buda, Minister of Economic Development and Technology.

At the same time, Poland will support the candidature of Ukraine and Odessa in their competition with the other states and cities willing to host this prestigious global event. Odessa, despite pending warfare, is fully determined to stay as a candidate and looks into the future with optimism. Becoming the host country of Expo would act as an additional incentive for Ukraine to promote and recover the Ukrainian economy in the post-war period. We declare our support in preparation of this event

– added the Head of MEDT.

Moscow (Russia) and Odessa (Ukraine) were suspended by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) by 7 September 2022, which is the deadline for the candidate cities to submit their documentation on the Expo organisation. Despite this fact, these cities are allowed to submit the application forms. The other potential host cities include also: Rijad (Saudi Arabia), Busan (South Korea) and Rome (Italy). The final decision on selecting the winner will be made at the end of 2023.

From Dubai to Osaka

The latest World Expo 2020 held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, ended on 31 March 2022.  It was attended by 192 states from around the world. It was the first World Expo held in the Middle East and the first one hosted by an Arabian country. Its main theme was: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.

The following World Expo will be held in Osaka, Japan (13 April - 13 October 2025). The organisers expect 175 participants, including 150 countries (including Poland) and 25 international organisations.

Expo Organiser

The responsibility for supervision over selecting the organiser for the next World Expo and the course of this 6-month event as a whole rests upon the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris. The organising countries are the proud hosts of both the exhibition and numerous accompanying events, which aim at promoting the economy, culture and art of the participating countries.
