Poland is the world's second producer of Toyota's hybrid engines
17.12.2021
Toyota has located in Poland the first outside Asia production and development centre for hybrid engines in the world. The centre supplies electric hybrid transmissions and TNGA petrol engines for Toyota's low-emission cars produced in Europe. On 17 December 2021, a new production line for the latest generation engine designed based on Toyota's TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global design platform was launched in Walbrzych with the participation of Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology Olga Semeniuk.
Electromobility is an area that is developing rapidly around the world. Thanks to it, we can contribute to a significant decarbonisation of the transport sector and an increased level of environmental performance in this sector. Increasing the production potential of hybrid engines in Poland is a step towards a sustainable and modern economy. It is in line with the philosophy of our government, for which the development of electromobility in Poland has been one of the priorities from the very beginning.

New investments which strengthen and stabilise the Polish economy
Poland is constantly attracting new investments. We are a country eagerly chosen for investment by companies from all over the world, representing the most advanced technologies and innovative industries, such as electromobility, where Poland is one of the world's leading producers of components for electric cars (mainly batteries). It is worth mentioning the recent investments of such companies as Northvolt worth 750 million PLN, which will provide 500 new jobs, or PepsiCo worth over a billion PLN, which will create 254 new jobs.
The development of investments throughout the country is one of the priorities of the current government. Therefore, a number of instruments have been created to support entrepreneurs at every stage of their activities - from designing business solutions, through their implementation, settlement, internalisation of activities, to support in restructuring processes.
Toyota in Poland
Toyota sees hybrid technology as an important step towards full electromobility. This technology provides customers with the best eco-friendly, yet economical and convenient solution currently available on the market, and cities with a ready-made tool to fight smog.
In September 2018, the Toyota Group began production of its first hybrid component in Walbrzych - an electric hybrid transmission for 1.8-litre engines. This was the first of six projects putting Toyota's Polish factories on the road towards electromobility. Since then, Toyota in Wałbrzych and Jelcz-Laskowice has launched three lines of electric hybrid transmissions, including production of the MG1 electric motor that is an integral part of the transmission, and three lines of TNGA engines. In addition, next year in Walbrzych it is planned to change the generation of the hybrid transmission to the latest - the fifth - and to start production of the second electric motor working in the hybrid transmission - MG2.
In connection with these projects, Toyota has additionally employed over 300 workers in Wa³brzych and over 600 in Jelcz-Laskowice. Currently, Toyota's total employment in Poland amounts to over 3300 workers. The level of investment in both plants has increased from PLN 4 to over PLN 6 billion, and the production capacity by 100% to 1.8 million components per year.
