Poland wants to develop strategic partnership with Japan
24.03.2021
The power industry (including hydrogen technologies), infrastructure, pharmacy and the automotive industry – these are prospective areas in which Poland wants to develop strategic co-operation with the Empire of Japan. On Wednesday 24th March, Robert Tomanek, Sub-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Development, Labour and Technology, talked on that subject to Akio Miyajima, Ambassador of Japan to Poland.
The 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations celebrated in 2019 and numerous high-level visits confirmed the stability and intensity of Polish–Japan relations. Since 2015, we have been bound by strategic partnership. We want to develop it to be able to meet joint challenges more effectively. We hope that a new action plan will be agreed upon under strategic partnership for the years 2021–2025
- stressed Minister Robert Tomanek during the meeting.
The last few years saw a dynamic increase of mutual trade exchange, which reached its peak in 2019 (almost 5.75 bn USD, including export – 751 million USD and import – 5 bn USD). Both parties want to intensify mutual business co-operation.
Investments of our Japanese partners are not only stable and high-paying jobs – the main benefits are the transfer of state-of-the-art technologies and an increase of employees’ knowledge and skills and, consequently, also pupils and students of schools and universities with which investors enter into co-operation. We would like to encourage Japanese countries to continue investing in Poland – particularly now in order to stimulate the development of economy weakened by the pandemic,
- said Minister Robert Tomanek.
The priority issue will be to transfer modern clean hydrogen technologies to Poland, which can be a response to the terms of the New Green Deal being introduced by the European Commission, and Japan is one of the global leaders in this field.
Other discussed areas of co-operation included electromobility, infrastructural projects such as the Central Airport and Railway Hub, or the export of Polish food products. During the meeting, the subject of Poland’s participation in EXPO 2025 in Osaka was also brought up.
