Poland Pavilion at EXPO 2020 honoured by "The National”
17.12.2021
The Polish Pavilion at the World Exhibition in Dubai has been named one of the most beautiful by "The National". Elegant minimalism, ecological aesthetics of wood broken with openwork kinetic sculpture symbolizing birds in flight are the features that determined its unique aesthetic values. The beauty of the Polish Pavilion was appreciated not only by "The National", but above all by the visitors. So far it has been visited by over three hundred thousand visitors from all over the world.
Modernity and tradition
The Polish Pavilion aims to inspire and share with the world many solutions for a conscious, sustainable future. At its heart is a unique table - a modern installation and a work of art in one. Sensory and interactive, it is made of materials that are characteristic for Poland. There is Polish copper ash, glass, ceramic fragments from Bolesławiec and steel used in the construction of world-renowned Polish yachts. The individual elements of the table represent the geographical regions of Poland.
The table - a meeting place and an object that personifies hospitality in Polish culture - invites the visitors to the pavilion to encounter what is Polish. The key to this story is the slogan "Creativity inspired by nature". "The Polish Table" invites and inspires, but also engages our guests. The words they say at the "Polish Table", or rather the sound waves from these words, are transformed into a light pulse. It creates artistic animations on the walls of the pavilion. A living image of Poland.
Polish Technologies
The special module of the "Polish Table" was made using 3D printing technology by the PIAP Space company according to the design of the RAZ studio from aluminium in the lattice technique, commonly used in the space industry. 3D printing technology is the process of producing three-dimensional, physical objects from a computer model. 3D metal printing is only just coming into use in space applications. The attractiveness of this technology is determined by the possibility to create structures that combine lightness with strength. Co-founder of the "Polish Table" - PIAP Space is a company operating in the space industry. Its activity was initiated by the PIAP Institute team, which is now part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network. The company develops technologies and products in the field of equipment for integration and testing of satellites, active removal of space debris, servicing satellites in orbit, human-robot interaction and vision systems and mechanisms.
Perovskites
An integral part of the Polish Pavilion, built into its facade, is an installation by Saule Technologies made of perovskite fibres. Every visitor to the pavilion can use it to charge their mobile phone. Perovskite cells were developed by Polish physicist Olga Malinkiewicz. The technology may bring about a real energy revolution. Perovskites work by harnessing both solar energy and artificial light, yet are thin, light, flexible and transparent - a single one is as thin as a tenth of a human hair. They can be applied to a variety of substrates, such as films, fabrics and tiles, making them suitable for bonding to building façades and roofing, as well as for use in solar awnings, roller blinds or shutters.
