Prospects for closer cooperation between Greece and Poland in the field of tourism at a meeting between Minister Andrzej Gut-Mostowy and Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis
07.05.2021
Boosting cooperation in the field of tourism, safety procedures for travellers, tourist exchange in the coming season and opportunities of intensification were the main topics of the meeting of ministers responsible for tourism in both countries.
For years Greece has been a leader on the Polish market in terms of outbound tourism, all while inbound tourism has been one of the priorities for the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, since Poland has many tourist attractions to offer to international tourists.
Greece enjoys great interest of Polish tourists and remains one of the most popular holiday destinations,
pointed out the Secretary of State Andrzej Gut-Mostowy.
On the other hand, tourist exchange between Poland and Greece is characterised by significant disproportions between inbound and outbound tourist traffic.
In 2019, according to UNWTO, Greece was visited by more than 850,000 Poles, with the vast majority of them going to Greece in connection with tourism, accounting for 2.72% of total arrivals in Greece.
I hope that Greeks will be more willing to choose Poland as their holiday destination – I'm counting on the fact that the relative closeness, high level of tourist services and good prices will attract more Greek tourists to come here.
We are interested in increasing the number of tourist arrivals in Poland,
said Vice-Minister Gut-Mostowy.
The pandemic has had a devastating effect on global tourism, so there needs to be more cooperation between countries in developing safe travel protocols.
Poland takes an active part in the process of establishing a system of mutually recognised vaccination certificates. In line with the recommendations concerning medical certificates, the system is to be based on a Trust Framework that will enable the cross-border operation of the service and the exchange of data.
At present, cooperation in the field of tourism between Poland and Greece is based mainly on direct contacts between actors in the tourism sector operating in both markets.
Ministry of Tourism of Greece and Greek National Tourism Organisation
