Almost PLN 1.5 billion from the Solidarity Fund to support people with disabilities in 2024
12.10.2023
Next year, resources from the Solidarity Fund, earmarked to finance programmes implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy aimed at people with disabilities, will increase by half a billion PLN and amount to a total of nearly 1.5 billion PLN, Deputy Minister Paweł Wdówik announced at a press briefing.
Since the creation of the Solidarity Fund in 2019, the number of local governments and NGOs that are the implementers of departmental programmes financed by the Solidarity Fund has been increasing year by year. The ultimate beneficiaries of the above programmes are people with disabilities and their family members or carers, who are increasingly benefiting from personal assistance and respite care services.
Yesterday we approved a list of 23 new Care and Housing Centres (CHC) to be set up across the country
said Deputy Minister Wdówik.
In the Deputy Minister's opinion, CHCs represent a new quality of life for people with disabilities, as they are best suited for the implementation of deinstitutionalisation policies. They are small institutions, designed for a few or a dozen or so people, offering, depending on needs, day or 24-hour care, in conditions closest to home. 33 CHCs are already in operation, and there should be totally 121. Funding for CHCs from the Solidarity Fund has been increased from PLN 150 million to PLN 215 million, i.e., by PLN 65 million.
Revolutionary changes for carers of people with disabilities brought about by respite care programme
said Deputy Minister Pawel Wdówik.
This is support for carers, usually immediate family members, who devote all their time to people who require 24-hour care. Thanks to this programme, they will be able to provide care to their dependants, either at home or at the place of their request, for 14 days or 250 hours a year. And the time reached in this way they will be able to spend for relaxation or to run their own essential errands.
Funding for the respite care programme for local authorities increased from PLN 150 million to PLN 190 million, and for NGOs from PLN 55 million to PLN 75 million.
We also see a great demand for the personal assistance programme, which is why we have increased funding for this purpose for local authorities by as much as PLN 255 million and for NGOs by PLN 120 million
stressed the Deputy Minister.
NGOs will receive PLN 225 million under this programme, while for local governments it will be PLN 760 million.
