Eurostat: Poland in second place with the lowest unemployment in the European Union

According to Eurostat, the unemployment rate in Poland in December 2021 was 2.9 percent. This is the second result in the European Union. In December, 504 thousand Poles were without work. 79 thousand less than in December 2020.

Eurostat data show that unemployment in Poland is still much lower than the EU average (6.4 percent) and the average for countries in the eurozone (7.0 percent). The situation in Poland is also better than in the same period last year.

Poland's unemployment rate in December 2021

In December 2020, the unemployment rate in our country was 3.4 percent, 583,000 people were unemployed then. During the year, the number of unemployed decreased by 79 thousand people and in December 2021 was at the level of 504 thousand people. The level of unemployment fell by 0.5 percentage points.

In December 2021, the lowest unemployment was recorded in the Czech Republic (2.1 percent). Poland is in second place.

Eurostat data shows that we have one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the European Union. This is very good news. It also means that the government's important activities aimed at improving the situation on the labour market are having the intended effect - says Marlena Maląg, Minister of Family and Social Policy.

Unemployment in EU and Eurozone in December 2021

According to data from the EU statistical office, the situation on the European labour market is better than in the corresponding period of 2020. In December 2020, the unemployment rate in the euro area was 8.2 per cent. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 1.2 percentage points. In contrast, unemployment in EU countries fell by 1.1 percentage points from 7.5 per cent in December 2020 to 6.4 per cent in December last year.
