Foreigners in the Polish labour market. It is much better than a few years ago
14.12.2021
The coronavirus pandemic had no major impact on the employment of foreigners in nearly half of the districts, and in more than 40% the demand for employees from abroad even increased – according to the surveys conducted by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy among the District Labour Offices. In the vast majority of cases, the offices agree: foreigners have a positive impact on the labour market in Poland.
The Ministry of Family and Social Policy asked 332 district labour offices about the impact of employment of foreigners on local labour markets. The offices from 361 districts participated in the survey. It was conducted in October and November.
Positive impact of foreigners on the labour market in Poland
The surveys show that foreigners have a positive impact on the labour market in Poland. This is what 70% of respondents say. This is a much better result than in 2016, when such answer was provided by 27.5% of respondents. However, this perception of foreigners does not guarantee an increase in their share in the labour market in the coming years. The expected increase in employment is seen here by 40% of the DLOs. Nevertheless, in the near future the district offices do not envisage a decrease in job offers for this group of employees.
Also, the pandemic had no major impact on the employment of foreigners in nearly half of the surveyed districts, and according to more than 41% the demand for employees from abroad even increased.
From the survey, we learn that the employment of foreigners results mainly from the lack of Polish candidates for the offered job (78.4% of the surveyed offices completely or rather agree with this statement).
Opinions are more different as regards the issue of remunerations for foreign workers. 36.8% of the surveyed offices are of opinion that the main reason for their employment may be worse working conditions and lower remunerations, for which Poles do not want to work. More than 35% are of the opposite opinion.
Stable situation in the labour market
What is important, the employment of foreigners has no impact on the liquidation of jobs of Poles (74.8%). It also does not result in the reduction in remunerations (72%).
Foreigners integrate more easily in social terms
In almost 60% of districts, there were no contracts for specific work and mandate contracts for the employment of foreigners. In other offices, they occur rather to a small or medium extent (35.5%). Foreigners working in Poland easily integrate into society (89.8%).
