Applications under the 'Family 800+' programme for the new benefit period, running from 1 June to 31 May of the following year, can be submitted from 1 February this year. It is worth doing it without delay: submitting the application by 30 April ensures the uninterrupted continuation of benefit payments.
How to make an application? Who is entitled to the benefit? We answer the frequently asked questions.
How do I apply for the benefit?
You can submit the application for the child-support benefit online via:
- Emp@tia information and services portal
- PUE ZUS platform or mZUS application
- electronic banking.
What is the timeframe for applying for the newborn benefit?
Parents have a three-month window from the birth of their child to apply to the Social Insurance Institution for child-support benefit, ensuring they receive compensation from the date of the child's birth.
Who can benefit from the Family 800+ programme?
The child-support benefit under the 'Family 800 +' programme is due for each child up to the age of 18.
This benefit can be claimed by the parents (either the mother or the father) as well as the de facto guardian (the individual who is actually caring for the child and has applied to the guardianship court for the child's adoption), provided that the child resides with them and is dependent on them. The child-support benefit is also available to the child's legal guardian and, in certain cases, to the director of a social welfare home.
Foster families, individuals managing a family orphanage, directors of foster care centres, directors of regional foster care and therapy centres, as well as directors of intervention pre-adoption centres, are also eligible to apply for the 800+ child-support benefit.
Is the child-support benefit granted on the basis of an income criterion?
The entitlement to child-support benefit is independent of family income, is exempt of enforcement and is not taxable.
How will one know if the Social Insurance Institution has reviewed the parent's application and approved the child-support benefit for the upcoming period?
Proceedings for child-support benefit will be conducted electronically by the Social Insurance Institution. You can find all the information about the application and its handling in your profile on PUE ZUS. The granting of a child-support benefit by the Social Insurance Institution does not require an administrative decision. If the child support benefit is approved, the parent will receive notification of the approval, which will be delivered to their inbox on the PUE ZUS profile. This applies even if the application was submitted through electronic banking or the Emp@tia portal.
Important dates!
Submitting an application by April 30 of a given year ensures that the awarded benefit (for June) will be granted and paid no later than June 30 of that year.
Applications submitted between 1 May and 31 May of a given year will have the entitlement determination and payment of the granted benefit for June and July completed no later than 31 July of that year.
If a person applying for child-support benefit submits an application between 1 June and 30 June of a given year, the determination and payment of the benefit granted for the months of June, July, and August will occur no later than 31 August of that year.
Important: If you submit the application after June 30, the entitlement to child-support benefit will be established, and the benefit will be paid from the month of the application. Hence, only submitting the application by the end of June ensures that the child-support benefit will be paid for the entire benefit period, spanning from 1 June to 31 May of the following year.
