01.12.2021

The first of December is an exceptional day on which we can summarise the government’s senior policy. Today, we are finishing the payment of another support for seniors – the fourteenth pension. This is an additional amount of PLN 11 billion for Polish old age and disability pensioners – said the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg at the press briefing. On Wednesday, a debate was held at the Ministry of Family, summarising the senior policy of the Law and Justice government.

Good six years for seniors. Debate at the Ministry of Family

The briefing was dedicated to the existing government policy supporting elderly people and the initiative to appoint representatives for the senior policy in each voivodeship. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Paweł Szefernaker and the Members of Parliament – the president of the Sejm Committee for Social Policy and Family, Urszula Rusecka and the president of the Sejm Committee for senior policy, Dr Joanna Borowiak.

Appointing representatives for the senior policy at the voivodes

Today, we are meeting on the initiative of Mrs Joanna Borowiak to discuss the importance of the senior policy. An important initiative is the appointment of representatives for the senior policy at the voivodes who will listen to the needs and voice of society – said Minister Maląg.

During the meeting, Secretary of State Paweł Szefernaker stressed the important role of local government units in implementing many government programmes. He pointed out the importance of the voivodes in coordinating cooperation between the government and local governments and empowering this institution making it easier for municipalities and districts to use government programmes.

On the other hand, the President of the Sejm Committee for Social Policy and Family, Urszula Rusecka reiterated the fact that the retirement age of 60 and 65 years, respectively, for women and men had been restored by the Law and Justice government.

For six years, we have been pursuing the senior policy, we restored the retirement age and implemented a number of senior programmes, including the 13th and 14th pension or the Mother+ programme. This was possible thanks to good cooperation between the government and the majority of the Parliament – said MP Rusecka.

In turn, MP Joanna Borowiak stressed – the government listens to seniors, responds to their needs and supports elderly people.

I would like to thank Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki for his positive attitude towards the initiative consisting in appointing representatives for the senior policy in each voivodeship. We listen to seniors, respond to their needs and support elderly people – said MP Borowiak.

The role of plenipotentiaries

Plenipotentiaries for the senior policy are to support the voivodes in helping elderly people in the individual voivodeships, but, first of all, they are to be ambassadors of seniors, to listen to their opinions and to support local governments.

The debate entitled “Senior policy – 6 years behind us”

The Ministry also organised the debate entitled “Senior policy – 6 years behind us”, attended by, inter alia, Deputy Minister Stanisław Szwed. One of the subjects of the discussion was the solutions dedicated to seniors in the Polish Order. It is, first of all, the tax-free pension up to PLN 2,500, which will enter into force on 1 January 2022. But this is not all.

PIT-0 is also a very important change for seniors under the Polish Order. Employees who reach their retirement age and decide to continue their work will not pay income tax as from the next year – said Deputy Minister Szwed.
