Help adjusted to the needs

02.03.2022

The Ministry of Family held another video conference with the representatives of voivodeship social policy departments, which was devoted to helping citizens of war affected Ukraine who arrive to Poland.

Help adjusted to the needs

The organiser of the centres of residence for Ukrainians coming to Poland, who do not have any family or friends here, are the voivodeship offices. If necessary, they can also provide support in the form of additional services. They received special financial resources for this purpose.

Support for disabled citizens of Ukraine

Paweł Wdówik, the Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People, informed that the situation of persons with disabilities, who are among citizens of Ukraine coming to Poland, is being monitored.

– There is a special helpline, designed for employees of reception points, informing how to help persons with disabilities and where to send them – said Deputy Minister Wdówik.

The tab regarding this group of people will soon also appear on the pomagamukrainie.gov.pl portal.

A database of places of stay adapted to their needs and access to buses, providing wheelchair users with transport from the border, is also being created. Deputy Minister Wdówik informed that it is also possible to act under the programmes: personal assistant to a person with disabilities and respite care.

Care of children from foster care

Among the refugees, there are also children who have been in Ukrainian foster care so far. They arrive in groups – with a guardian or individually – brought by family or friends.

– We want to regulate their status in the special Act legalising the stay of Ukrainians – said Deputy Minister Barbara Socha at the meeting. The most important thing is not to break up arriving groups so as not to cause additional stress in children and to provide their temporary guardians with a legal status that will allow them to apply for help in various areas, such as family benefits, health care or enrolling children to school.
