Higher threshold for supplementary benefits for persons unable to live independently
16.03.2022
Since 1 March, the threshold entitling to receive a supplementary benefit for persons unable to live independently has increased. An additional benefit is granted to those who receive monthly benefits of up to PLN 1,896.13 gross.
The benefit was launched in October 2019. It is addressed to persons who turned 18 years old, live in Poland and are completely unable to work and live independently, as confirmed in the form of a certificate.
What does the amount of the benefit depend on?
The amount of the benefit depends, inter alia, on the total amount of cash benefits, to which a given person is entitled and which are financed from public funds. Last year, the threshold entitling to receive the benefit was PLN 1,772.08 gross per month. Since March, it has been increased by more than PLN 124, to PLN 1,896.12 gross. When paying this benefit, the PLN for PLN principle applies.
The higher threshold entitling to receive a supplementary benefit is the result of amendments to the Act that introduce a permanent mechanism for indexation of the threshold.
– It will be indexed annually as from 1 March, with the same indicator which is used for indexation of old age and disability pensions – says the Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg.
This year’s indexation rate of old age and disability pensions amounted to 7% and the threshold entitling to receive a supplementary benefit for people who are unable to live independently has also increased by the same percentage. The additional support is granted from the month in which the applicants met the conditions required by the Act, however, not earlier than from the month in which they submitted an application for the benefit.
